Achieving
significant reductions in serious events of harm to patients
is the primary objective of a group of hospitals that are
implementing a comprehensive culture of patient safety based
on strategies proven successful in creating the excellent
safety record in nuclear power and other high reliability
industries. Since 2003, reductions up to 65% in serious
safety events have been achieved. The presentation will
highlight a key element – a defined leadership method that
has proven to be necessary in sustaining and maintaining
these results as it has been implemented in three organizations.
