Performance Improvement. He is a Past President of the American
College of Physician Executives, and was Vice President of Medical
Operations at Denver-based Catholic Health Initiatives, which
won the National Quality Healthcare Award in 2001. In that role,
he served as the physician leader of the national patient safety
program for the system’s seventy hospitals, and worked on the
operations team for numerous hospitals and medical staffs. Dr.
Silbaugh has also worked as Vice President of Medical Management
at St. Joseph Healthcare System in Albuquerque, and served as
medical director of New Mexico Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Passionately
curious about people and their efforts to make the world a better
place, he led the first-ever delegation of physician executives
to China and Tibet in 2005 to meet with health ministry and
hospital officials. Dr. Silbaugh currently serves on the Governing
Council of the national Patient Safety Education Project on
behalf of ACPE, and is a frequent writer and lecturer on leadership,
safety, and communication topics for the healthcare industry.
